The Project

Pacy and Wheatley Interiors, expert Interior Refurbishment Contractors, completed an Interior Refurbishment for a storage unit in Heston. The client purchased this brand new unit as it was in an ideal location for a self-storage outlet. However the unit had already been equipped for another user and was fitted out for their specification. This meant that the Mezzanine floor, newly formed offices and Toilet facilities had to be stripped out to a bare shell before the storage facility fit out began.

Pacy & Wheatley then commenced the fit out of the unit that consisted of building 2nr fire staircases, the formation of a new reception area including toilets, kitchen area and meeting rooms. We also formed a new loading area that included a facility for 24-hour access by means of a set of auto sliding doors and keypad secure entrance system.

Health and safety on this project needed to be of the highest order as there were also a number of nominated other trades such as Mezzanine floor fitters, electricians and lift installation engineers working on site, some at an elevated level. The effective way in which the site was managed from a health and safety perspective resulted in zero accidents throughout the whole project.

The Solution

Issues on this project were that we were awarded the project at a very late stage resulting in having less than a week to mobilise, which we did. The project commenced on time as the client had tight deadlines for the opening. We also had to work alongside the Mezzanine installers whilst installing the staircases, which is not typical on these projects as we usually have a week to install the staircases prior to the Mezzanine installers commencing their works. This resulted in various logistical meetings to ensure that both trades could work together to progress the project to programme.

We had weekly meetings with all the various package contractors in attendance along with the appointed Architect and client, which was essential to ensure that the project achieved handover to the store on time. This store had a 2 phase handover, the office area opening first so that newly appointed staff could be trained and then 2 weeks later the storage facility opened to the public.

This challenging project commenced and completed in 7 weeks, with everyone pulling together the end goal was achieved on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
