The Project
Pacy & Wheatley were appointed on a negotiated cost basis to carry out the refurbishment of the existing reception area, staff areas and the public toilet facilities in order to bring it in line with the corporate image of a Big Yellow retail outlet. The Armadillo Self Storage unit in Derby was acquired by the Big Yellow Group in approximately 2011 and ever since then it has been operating as an Armadillo unit without the specified finish of a Big Yellow store. The works needed to be coordinated in such a way to cause minimum disruption to a very busy front-end reception area. This meant that some of the works, such as the new flooring and refurbishment to the existing counter, had to be carried out through the night when the area was closed to the public. IT and Electrical Works also needed to be coordinated accurately so all the new computers and monitor screens could be fitted in one visit. The total project was carried out in under 3 weeks and health and safety was of paramount importance, which resulted in zero accidents. Although a tight programme, the project was handed over on time, on budget and with zero defects. The solution achieved is a much brighter and more professional public reception area which is now operating to the 2017 Big Yellow corporate specification.
