The Nottingham NHS Trust approached Pacy & Wheatley Interiors to participate in a planned refurbishment of the Nottingham City Hospital. The estimated project value was approximately £800,000, representing a significant investment by the authority to improve the hospital facilities. Interior work included installing new fire doors, bed bay curtains, floors and ceilings. It also included fitting an upgraded medical gas system, fire alarm, mechanical and electrical systems, and LED lighting.

The Challenge

Pacy & Wheatley Interiors worked competently in an evolving and busy medical environment. Teams had to ensure that the installation process did not interrupt critical healthcare functions in the hospital while conducting work.

The Solution

The solution was to envision a brighter, safer, and more hygienic hospital environment for patients and medical staff. Our work introduced new efficiencies built into the building’s fabric, enabling practitioners to provide enhanced services to the community.

The Result

Pacy & Wheatley Interiors and the Nottingham NHS Trust originally predicted the work on the Newell Ward would take 16 weeks. However, we completed it in 12, four weeks earlier than unplanned. This achievement was possible through careful planning and an efficiency-oriented approach to work. Pacy & Wheatley carefully laid out the project timetable in stages, listing completion dates for various tasks and arranging logistics around them. Ultimately, this approach meant the project was completed early with zero accidents.

    Nottingham University Hospitals, NHS Trust

    Pacy & Wheatley Interiors were contacted in regard to getting involved in an urgent project to completely strip out and refurbish the Southwell Ward at Nottingham City Hospital. The brief to this project was that once commenced, this project needed to be completed in 12 weeks, a very tall undertaking based on the amount of work involved. However, after several meetings, a programme was put together which involved a large portion of the works being carried out on both days and nights, 6 days a week, in order to give all involved the best chance of completing the works to a very challenging timescale. The works undertaken involved the full strip out of the existing ward, including substantial M&E works, new flooring to all the wards, new doors, new counters and Kitchen units were also installed on the Joinery element of the works. New lay in grid Ceilings were installed along with specified LED Lighting upgrades and the whole ward was fully Decorated throughout.

    This, in essence, was a monumental challenge for all involved, including the Architect, Consultants, the in-house NHS team, and, of course, the P&W site and Management team. The delivery of this project needed careful planning and completion of areas of the ward in a phased manner to ensure that all of the trades involved could access specific areas to complete their works. This was achieved for the most part due to thorough planning and due consideration given to all of the trades participating on the project.

    Pacy & Wheatley have now delivered a modern, state-of-the-art facility for both Hospital patients and staff, completed in record time. Thanks must go to all involved for their dedication and application in ensuring we got over the line and completed this project.
