Healthcare refurbishment and extension, Nottingham
- Client: Nottingham City Hospital
- Sector: Healthcare
- Type: Refurbishment & Extension
- Procurement: Competitive
- Location: Nottingham
- Project Value: £1.1 Million
The Project
The first phase was to build a Brick extension to the existing CT area. The Second Phase was to refurbish the current CT6 block. The extension needed to be built to form a covered walkway leading to other Hospital locations so that patients who were ill and had undergone scans were not exposed to the elements when being taken back to the ward areas. Once this extension was completed and fully utilised, we refurbished the existing sites, including a new reception and treatment area in the CT Section. New treatment rooms were formed along with a modern and comfortable waiting area. New Toilets were installed, as well as offices and storage rooms. Many trades were involved in the refurbishment areas where new air conditioning, new LED lighting, new flooring, extensive decoration, new doors and new windows.
The Challenge
The challenge was a difficult one due to the fact we were working in a functioning area of the Hospital. Works had to be coordinated daily with the department Managers for there to be little or no disruption to patient care. This was achieved, albeit with perfect coordination and logistical approaches in planning the daily refurbishment activities. The extension works were carried out in the middle of Winter, so we had terrible weather disruptions and many underground issues to resolve.
The Solution
The solution is that the refurbishment has improved both the working conditions of the staff deployed in the department and for patients. The facilities now provided are state of the art within this department, and patients being treated in this area now experience a modern and comfortable environment.
