50th Year Fit-Out Projects

Posted on 10 December 2018

2018 has been the Pacy & Wheatley Group's 50th Anniversary – and we've had a whole host of celebrations all year round! The Interiors team have completed some high quality projects this year, including refurbishments, fit-outs, strip outs, and what was probably one of our most challenging projects to date. We're taking a look at some of this year's highlights, including one of Pacy & Wheatley Interiors' biggest projects ever.
Holiday Inn Express, Birmingham
Building on our continued relationship with the Holiday Inn Express brand, our team completed a refurbishment project to the Holiday Inn Express in Birmingham. Having been recently purchased from a competitor, the hotel was looking tired and dated, and had not been refurbished for a long time.

The works were scheduled for a six-week period. As the hotel had to remain open during the works, health and safety was a top priority, and the public areas on the ground floor were sealed off. Read more about the project here.

Center Parcs, Sherwood Forest
The Pacy & Wheatley Interiors team were appointed by our client as the main contractor, carrying out internal and external refurbishments in Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire. During the six-week refurbishment programme, the team worked flexible hours over two phases of the day, ensuring minimal disruption to the services Center Parcs offer.

The project resulted in a brighter, more colourful main square and upgraded public facilities, and was handed over on time, with zero defects.

Marriott Hotel, Heathrow
Probably our most challenging project to date, our team completed major interior refurbishments to the Marriott Hotel in Heathrow. In the ground floor area we installed a new bespoke steel staircase, new marble flooring, and soft carpet areas. We also formed four new meeting and conference rooms, and fully refurbished the reception area, including an altered entrance to account for the increased traffic in and out of the hotel.

The project spanned a 40-week fit out period due to ongoing design changes and working restrictions, but the end result looks exceptional. Read more about the project on our Case Study page.

It's been a fantastic year for Pacy & Wheatley Interiors, and the entire Pacy & Wheatley Group. We've successfully completed some of our biggest, most challenging projects to date, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for the group.

    Nottingham University Hospitals, NHS Trust

Pacy & Wheatley Interiors were contacted in regard to getting involved in an urgent project to completely strip out and refurbish the Southwell Ward at Nottingham City Hospital. The brief to this project was that once commenced, this project needed to be completed in 12 weeks, a very tall undertaking based on the amount of work involved. However, after several meetings, a programme was put together which involved a large portion of the works being carried out on both days and nights, 6 days a week, in order to give all involved the best chance of completing the works to a very challenging timescale. The works undertaken involved the full strip out of the existing ward, including substantial M&E works, new flooring to all the wards, new doors, new counters and Kitchen units were also installed on the Joinery element of the works. New lay in grid Ceilings were installed along with specified LED Lighting upgrades and the whole ward was fully Decorated throughout.

This, in essence, was a monumental challenge for all involved, including the Architect, Consultants, the in-house NHS team, and, of course, the P&W site and Management team. The delivery of this project needed careful planning and completion of areas of the ward in a phased manner to ensure that all of the trades involved could access specific areas to complete their works. This was achieved for the most part due to thorough planning and due consideration given to all of the trades participating on the project.

Pacy & Wheatley have now delivered a modern, state-of-the-art facility for both Hospital patients and staff, completed in record time. Thanks must go to all involved for their dedication and application in ensuring we got over the line and completed this project. Many Thanks to both Adam Cox ( Site Manager ) along with Steve Shaw ( Project Manager ) and Charlotte Wheatley ( Project QS ) for their outstanding effort in delivering this project which was delivered with zero accidents which in itself is a testament to the planning and execution of the works.
